Gelson's Ribbon Cutting

A crowd gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Gelson’s wine bar and newly remodeled grocery store. Since 1960, Gelson’s, then Mayfair, has been a part of the community. They supported four charities with gifts and then made a promise of a check to City of Hope when shoppers use the pink ribbon grocery bags. Friends of the Observatory received checks Silver Lake Reservoirs Conservancy. They announced that nearly 500 pets have been adopted through various partnerships with neighborhood organizations’ events at the store. Dr. Cheryl Revkin spoke on behalf of the Chamber, and gave a nod to Silver Lake Moms as well. She is pictured above with Gelson’s CEO Rob McDougall cutting the ribbon.

27/04/2015  |  No comments

Pour smallThe Wildwoods Foundation builds community by exploring nature with children and youth.
They embrace the notion,

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”  – Albert Einstein

Come enjoy Silver Lake neighborhood goodies and support the world’s caretakers of tomorrow.
What: 5th Annual Wildwoods Wine Tasting & Silent Auction
When: Saturday, May 2, from 6 – 9 p.m.
Where: Silver Lake Wine, 2395 Glendale Blvd. 90039
Why: Proceeds from the evening will benefit the innovative programs of the Wildwoods Foundation for Los Angeles schools, including Full Circle, Oakgrove and our newest program A Drop in the Bucket, teaching students about conservation and the California drought.
In addition to the flight of wines selected by the fine folks at Silver Lake Wine, we’ll have light fare from California Pizza Kitchen and sinful deserts from Hot Cake Bakes.
And of course, there’s our silent auction featuring many of our neighborhood’s finest restaurants and boutiques.  (If I started naming names, someone might get jealous.)  This year, we’re also featuring some great experience packages, like a personal guided tour of the Los Angeles Natural History Museum provided by curator, William Estrada, Ph.D.
Finally, we’re going to have an incredible photographer covering the event: Grettel Cortes.  Her work is amazing.  Folks may want to come just to have her to snap their picture.  And we’ll be happy to share our photos with attendees.

Welcome HacheLA

18/09/2014  |  No comments

GRAND OPENING – 9/18/14

At the former location of Terascos, HacheLA (pronounced hashay) officially opens on National Cheeseburger Day. Beef lovers can savor a Haché, a meat patty formed to order, from freshly ground 4 parts lean to 1 part fattier for flavor all natural USDA Sirloin. Tell your mouth to get reach for a loose, juicy, course ground steak tasting like patty, with a slow charbroiled aftertaste.

How do you make crunchy fries? Their fresh American friets are proprietary triple cooked (twice fried) potatoes, made from organic American Burbank potatoes combined with homemade sauces.

For dessert, try your choice of 3 daily flavors of a frozen custard. Made from organic milk, cream, egg yolks and cane sugar, custard is frozen to order with liquid nitrogen.

Thirsty? Enjoy a homemade drink, one of three craft beers, a white or a red wine.
