Los Angeles County Public Works Small Business Opportunities

15/04/2019  |  No comments

Los Angeles County Public Works recognizes the significance of collaboration and community partnerships in supporting local economic development. Public Works is dedicated to expanding business opportunities for Local Small Businesses (LSBEs), Disabled Veteran Enterprises (DVBEs) and Social Enterprises (SEs). Small businesses help recirculate local dollars back into communities and add to the overall economic stability in Los Angeles County.

Public Works is committed to awarding 25% of our contracts to local small businesses by 2020 and they strive to purchase from local small businesses whenever possible. They have a variety of business opportunities available, ranging from building and infrastructure projects, construction, traffic signal modifications, janitorial services, purchasing opportunities, and more. All Public Works Business Opportunities are listed on their website, DoBusinessWithPublicWorks.com, along with other helpful resources for small businesses.

In addition to the Business Opportunities page, they also maintain a Small Business Event Calendar where they post small business related workshops, events, and trainings (most of which are free or low cost).

You may sign up by clicking here to receive weekly emails from them,

“WHERE’S MY EMAIL??”

01/03/2018  |  No comments

GMAIL FILTERS HAVE CHANGED, so you may not be getting news from us and your list might not be getting yours. Here’s the fix.

*We are grateful to Zoey Smith of Zbra Studios for giving us the answers.

Recently we ask Zoey Smith of Zbra Studios [Design. Develop. Market.] to help us. Emails we WANTED were not coming in. Here’s her explanation and fix.

Gmail has filters that allow you to ensure that particular senders are never sent to the spam box. Here’s what you do:

1) Click on the small down arrow found in the search bar that is at the top of all pages in Gmail, shown here: https://d.pr/i/WK2qwc

2) This will open up an advanced search menu. Enter the “info@silverlakechamber.com” email address in the “From” field, and then hit the “create filter” with this search link, as shown here: https://d.pr/i/1bZYOu

3) Check the “never send it to spam” button and then create the filter, as shown here: https://d.pr/i/Q7yaPN

You should be all set!

Cheers,

Zoey Smith

PESTS: EXCLUDE, DETER, REPEL

Silver Lake Neighborhood Council is working with the City to implement a ban on rat poisons. This would protect the animals who feed on them, including our local mountain lions. Yes, it’s important to keep them away from your business, and there are other safer methods.
In other municipal locations, businesses that block entries and keep trash clean are able to control the rodent population. (Read more about Malibu) and terriers and cats on patrol keep rats at bay (Read more about Washington DC and New York).
No matter how clean you keep your place, neighbors—homeless and not—can determine the growth or abatement of rodents in our ‘hood.
Here is more information on how to protect your property and let nature’s predators prevent population explosion: http://www.scvas.org/pdf/FrontPage(Rodenticides)_15_0102.pdf
