LA-HOP : Outreach for the Homeless

28/08/2018  |  No comments

The Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) launched the Los Angeles Homeless Outreach Portal, dubbed LA-HOP. The mobile-friendly website empowers members of the public, first responders, and service providers to more easily request outreach for people experiencing homelessness. An outreach coordinator in each region serves as the “air traffic controller” for all requests and sends the most appropriate outreach team, with the goal of reducing response times to those in need.

**If you know of or see any homeless individuals in need and would like to request outreach for them please visit the following link: https://www.lahsa.org/portal/apps/la-hop/request

Sunset Triangle Community Closet

22/01/2016  |  No comments

green dresser - take or leave jacket and sweatersOnce homeless himself, our member Silver Lake Love’s Chi Ip installed a Community Closet right at Sunset Junction in Polka Dot Plaza. Painted green with its own yellow polka dot, the dresser’s sign invites needy people to help themselves to jackets and sweaters. Those with excess can leave a gift there.

On a trip to New York, Chi and his friend would not take “No” for an answer, as they helped find a youth a place to sleep for the night and a path to achieving his dream. Link to that story at the end of the blog post about Silver Lake’s new way to do clothes distribution.
