Festival of Lights

Each year in December, The Silverlake Independent JCC puts on The Festival of Lights, a holiday event packed with games, crafts, food, and performances for the entire community. Last year’s event had over 200 families with children ages 0-13 in attendance. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, December 13 from 10am-2pm at SIJCC.

This year’s Festival is chock-full of brand new fun: woodworking workshops in Side Street Projects’ amazing repurposed school bus, adventures and treasure hunts through the Festival, and bagels from the awesome Yeastie Boys. Plus a stage full of our favorite performers from our community and our neighborhood, featuring everything from The Hollow Trees doing their tunes, to a capoeira demonstration from the folks at United Capoeira Association. We’ll also have Lionheart Fitness doing games and sports as well as tee-shirt decorating, donut eating contests, shrinky dink making, face-painting, and of course our famous bake sale!

Kids 2 and up are $15/each. Adults get in free! More info at https://www.facebook.com/events/872023379562527/

This year we are also inviting local businesses to take part and promote themselves to the community at the event. If you’d like to get involved, we invite you to sponsor our Festival of Lights. We have numerous sponsorship opportunities for this event and more! For more information please visit http://www.sijcc.net/sponsorship-opportunities. Any sponsorship questions can be directed to Shannon@sijcc.net.

Wildwoods Wine Tasting for Water Education

27/04/2015  |  No comments

Pour smallThe Wildwoods Foundation builds community by exploring nature with children and youth.
They embrace the notion,

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”  – Albert Einstein

Come enjoy Silver Lake neighborhood goodies and support the world’s caretakers of tomorrow.
What: 5th Annual Wildwoods Wine Tasting & Silent Auction
When: Saturday, May 2, from 6 – 9 p.m.
Where: Silver Lake Wine, 2395 Glendale Blvd. 90039
Why: Proceeds from the evening will benefit the innovative programs of the Wildwoods Foundation for Los Angeles schools, including Full Circle, Oakgrove and our newest program A Drop in the Bucket, teaching students about conservation and the California drought.
In addition to the flight of wines selected by the fine folks at Silver Lake Wine, we’ll have light fare from California Pizza Kitchen and sinful deserts from Hot Cake Bakes.
And of course, there’s our silent auction featuring many of our neighborhood’s finest restaurants and boutiques.  (If I started naming names, someone might get jealous.)  This year, we’re also featuring some great experience packages, like a personal guided tour of the Los Angeles Natural History Museum provided by curator, William Estrada, Ph.D.
Finally, we’re going to have an incredible photographer covering the event: Grettel Cortes.  Her work is amazing.  Folks may want to come just to have her to snap their picture.  And we’ll be happy to share our photos with attendees.
