Small Business Ideas for October
October is full of nationally recognized days and seasonal moments that make it easy to show up, connect, and stay relevant. Here are a few ways your business can join the conversation this month:

National Women’s Small Business Month (All October)
Spotlight women-owned businesses you admire, collaborate with local women entrepreneurs, or share your own story if it applies. It’s a great time to celebrate leadership, resilience, and community support.

Halloween (Oct 31)
Lean into the fun by offering themed specials, decorate your space, run a costume contest, or share behind-the-scenes prep for the day. Even non-retail businesses can engage with light-hearted content or staff spotlights.

World Mental Health Day (Oct 10)
A thoughtful post, wellness tip, or acknowledgment goes a long way. You could share local mental health resources, highlight employee self-care practices, or encourage mindful breaks.

National Coming Out Day (Oct 11)
Show support for the LGBTQ+ community with inclusive messaging, highlighting local organizations, or amplifying voices and stories.

Small Business Saturday Prep
Even though it’s in November, October is the perfect time to start teasing specials, collaborations, and promotions so your audience knows what’s coming.

Outdoor Dining in California Just Got a Permanent Upgrade

Remember when restaurants took over sidewalks and parking lots during the pandemic to stay alive? That temporary fix just turned into long-term opportunity. Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed new legislation that makes it easier for restaurants to create and keep outdoor dining spaces, without the maze of permits and delays.

From faster approvals to more flexibility for business owners, especially in sunny Southern California, these laws could reshape how and where we eat. Curious what AB 592 actually does? Read more on HERE on LAist.
