I recently signed the LA28 Local Business Pledge on behalf of the Silver Lake Chamber of Commerce. The pledge supports a motion introduced by Los Angeles City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson calling on LA28 to set a clear, transparent procurement goal so businesses and workers in the City of Los Angeles benefit directly from hosting the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. An estimated $4 billion in procurement opportunities are expected across the Los Angeles region.
Right now, LA28 defines “local” as businesses across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties, which means there is no guarantee that City of Los Angeles businesses will receive a meaningful share of that spending. I wanted the Silver Lake Chamber to be on record supporting a City-specific goal, so our local businesses are not overlooked as these opportunities develop.
